The Responsible AI Toolkit for African Startups is a practical, context-driven resource designed to support startups in developing and deploying artificial intelligence systems that are ethical, trustworthy, and aligned with both local realities and global standards. The Toolkit incorporates relevant insights and frameworks from across Africa to ensure broader applicability across the continent.
Designed to bridge the gap between Responsible AI principles and real-world application, the Toolkit offers actionable guidance that can be applied directly across the AI lifecycle, combining ethical principles, legal considerations, risk assessment tools, and localised case studies relevant to the African context. It is tailored to guide startups, particularly those with limited resources, providing structured frameworks and practical tools to support responsible innovation across the AI lifecycle.
Launched on 17 March 2026 in Nairobi, the Toolkit forms part of a broader capacity-building initiative implemented by DIFA Consultancy in partnership with Akili AI, with the support of the Kenya ICT Network (KICTANet) and funded by the British High Commission under the UK-Kenya AI Challenge Fund (Phase II).
